RTDC Meeting 10•1•22 10 am Library and Zoom

Dear and esteemed members of the RDTC and extended community,

Just a short note to remind you all that tomorrow (Oct 1) we will be having our next monthly meeting.  As usual the meeting will be held in the Brenner room of our town’s fabulous library (mask wearing is encouraged by the library staff).  For those who would rather participate virtually the zoom link can be found at the end of this email.

I look forward to seeing you all and feel free to bring a friend.

The meeting will end promptly at 11 (or a smidge sooner) to allow all who wish to participate at the weekly standout at Dock Sq to have time to get there.

In Solidarity

Nathaniel Mulcahy

Join ECCO on Cape Ann to Canvas for Questions 1 and 4!

Some of our members have expressed an interest in canvasing for Questions 1 or 4. Over the transom from ECCO comes an opportunity to do both, on Sunday October 2:

Join ECCO on Cape Ann to Canvas for Questions 1 and 4!

What: Elections are fast approaching, and there are two critical questions on the ballot. We need ALL hands on deck to pass Yes on 4 for Safer Roads and Yes on 1 for Fair Share! This is an opportunity to connect with community members across Cape Ann who care about racial and economic justice while doing the most important thing we can do before elections: talk to voters. The Essex County Community Organization (ECCO) will provide a short training, materials, and some snacks; all you have to do is show up with a fully charged phone and canvas! If possible download the Minivan Touch app beforehand to be prepared. RSVP by clicking here.

When: Sunday, October 2nd, 11:45 – 3:00

Where: We’ll meet outside of the UU Society of Rockport (4 Cleaves St, Rockport, MA 01966) for training, and then drive in pairs to our canvassing locations in Gloucester.

Standout for Women’s Healthcare 11-12 Dock Sq

The weekly Standout for Women’s Healthcare (all of it!) continues.

Come join us to thank the voters of states like Kansas who have rejected these abusive anti-woman laws and to support all the good work being done around the country to do the same.

Also… wondering what Desantis was up to with that horrible stunt?

from Heather Cox Richardson’s post today….

‘In the lead-up to the midterms, Republicans have tried to distract from their unpopular stands on abortion, contraception, marriage equality, and so on, by hammering on the idea that the Democrats have created “open borders”; that criminal immigrants are bringing in huge amounts of drugs, especially fentanyl; and that Biden is secretly flying undocumented immigrants into Republican states in the middle of the night. Beginning in July, they began to insist that the country is being “invaded.”

In fact, the border is not “open.” Fences, surveillance technology, and about 20,000 Border Patrol agents make the border more secure than it has ever been. That means apprehensions of undocumented migrants are up, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recording more than 3 million encounters at the border since January 2021. Those high numbers reflect people stopped from coming in and are artificially inflated because many who are stopped try again. CBP estimates that about 27% of those stopped at the border are repeat apprehensions. ‘

Notes from Team Moulton

Over the transom from Team Moulton:

Hello from Team Moulton,
We have two opportunities to join the campaign with Congressman Seth Moulton this weekend. Details below. We hope to see you at one of them!

Backyard Politics with Seth Moulton

Sunday, September 18th, 6pmThe Barn at 34 Heartbreak Road, IpswichRSVP here

Cape Ann Dems Office Opening

Sunday, September 18th, noon
44 Commercial St., Gloucester

Both events are free and open to all!

In other news, Seth’s office was awarded with a Democracy Award this weekend for their excellence in the area of Innovation and Modernization. This is the third award from the Congressional Management Foundation for Seth’s office, more than any other member. Previously, his office won awards in the areas of Best Constituent Services and for Transparency and Accountability.
Recently, Seth earned a Champion ranking by Voice for Refuge, one of only 14 House members to receive the ranking, in large part due to his advocacy for our Afghan Allies fleeing the Taliban.
Finally, Seth was endorsed by the Newton Action Alliance for his leadership in stopping gun violence. His most recent proposal would treat certain mass shooters as domestic terrorists, allowing investigators touncover the broader network that aid their attacks.
Regards,Team Moulton
