At Gloucester’s next general City Committee meeting on June 9 we will hold an open forum for supporters of our two Democratic Presidential Candidates. Because of time constraints, each speaker should pick one topic or issue and discuss their candidate’s position on that issue. Each speaker will have one minute to present his or her ideas. GDCC Chair Emeritus Michael Wheeler will moderate the 30-minute discussion. While speakers are expected to argue the case for one or the other of our candidates, the focus of the meeting is to find common ground to ensure a Democratic victory in the fall.
Requests to speak should be made to GDCC Chair Karen Bell (chair@gloucesterdemocrats.org, 978-283-3209) or to Outreach Chair Bernadette Merenda (bernadettemerenda@gmail.com, 978-852-7165) and should include a one-sentence description of your topic, so that we can prepare a list of speakers. Speakers will be scheduled alternately by candidate in the order in which their request to speak was received. Any time remaining will be filled by speakers who volunteer at the meeting itself.
The June meeting is the last general GDCC gathering before September. This summer is critical in terms of selecting an official Democratic presidential candidate and organizing a Cape Ann Democratic effort. The ideas and positions brought forward at the Forum will inform our local, grass-roots strategy for the fall. We have a full agenda, so please try to be on time.
The forum will follow our scheduled discussion on education reform by Ed Moscovitch of the Bay State Reading Institute.
The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. after our social hour which begins at 7 at the Gloucester House, 63 Rogers St.
